I need a good job in Bangalore
June 12, 2008
I was born in Bangalore 3 decades ago when sparrows used to be in plenty. My childhood days were spent in hospital visits in pursuit of setting right my leg. Inspite of mobility problems, I managed to clear my 10th grade with distinction. During P.U.C my inability to attend tuitions due to financial and mobility problems made it difficult to study in a class of 110. I managed to get through narrowly missing a 1st class by 1%. While my friends went on to become B.E. graduates and landed in good companies, I undertook a Diploma in mechanical engineering with 1st class in all the three years.
Bangalore was a sedate city with enough space to cycle around, play on the streets, buy cheap food and have a merry time. Now the city is at the forefront of a new era. Concrete towers are replacing trees, playgrounds are replaced by malls, buying food costs a bomb and travelling is a nightmare.
I am in the middle of a crisis where staying in a rented accomodation, I am finding it increasingly difficult to meet the expenses. My parents never thought that we would end up living like refugees while people from outside came and settled down in their own homes.
Working in a government organisation, it was a challenge to fight all the odds and perform. Many a time I had to face comments from colleagues who used to while away the time while I struggled with the work. I felt odd that people who acted hostile were not approached again for work but only those who were maintaining cordial relationship were loaded with work like donkeys.
Inspite of my disability, I have come into being such an important asset in the department that they dont allow me to take rest even if I am on sick leave. The phone keeps ringing and my mind is losing its cool.
I dont want to work like a machine and end up like a mental freak. I am yet to start a family and have every right to enjoy my age now instead of matching up to the abilities of my old bosses.
I feel life is about having a good balance between work and home (or personal life). A job is required to sustain needs, but then space is also required to enjoy life. If I keep struggling so much for the company today and end up as a jerk tomorrow, the same company will kick me out and get a new fellow in to do their job.
This is where I realise how important my life is to me and my close ones.
I am in pursuit of a job in Bangalore that fulfills my aspirations and gives me enough money and space to live well for the rest of my life.
There are many IT companies in Bangalore whose only motto is to recruit graduates and measure their Six sigmas. Many of the geniuses of the 20th and 21st century were not graduates!. Drop-outs from schools and colleges have today built empires. Then why is it that these companies shut their eyes for other streams. Is it their inability to look beyond what they actually want to see. Are they so incapable of creating jobs that utilise the talent pool thrown around everywhere. What about the committment to the society where they are given space to operate?
I wish to join a company which gives importance to a person’s capabilities, respects space, encourages good work, supports in crisis, welcomes suggestions.
